Prepare a 9x13 bake pan by buttering and flouring. Add 1 cup butter, 1 cup water, and cake cocoa powder to a small sauce pan.

Remove from heat after boiling and whisking. Set aside. Whisk sugar, baking soda, salt, and 2 cups flour in a large bowl.

Create a well and add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Introduce dry ingredients slowly with a fork or whisk.

After adding the butter/cocoa combination, whisk until smooth. After preparing the baking dish, pour the batter in and level the top.

For around 35 minutes, bake the cake. If you stick a toothpick in the center to check for doneness, it should come out clean.

Prepare the icing a few minutes before the cake is done baking. Put the butter, milk, and cocoa powder in a small saucepan and reduce the heat to low.

Whisk occasionally until butter melts and mixture is smooth. Do not boil. Whisk powdered sugar and vanilla after removing from heat.

Smooth warm icing on warm cake. Top with sea salt and pistachios. Warm or room temperature.
